TRANSFORMING HOW WE USE OUR URBAN RESOURCES
We foster the development of programs and technologies that will make better use of our resources, one home at a time. Find out how you can have a significant positive impact on our overall environment.
OUR MISSION
At Urban Ecology Project, we aim to identify, promote, and implement technologies and services that improve how individual households and communities interact with, influence, and make use of urban resources.
WHO WE ARE
We are a registered California Non Profit Public Benefit Corporation.
WHAT WE DO
Urban Ecology Project is a source of information on ecological technologies and methods, outlining how renewable energy options are available to those who live in urban environments. We provide information on how these resources can be best utilized in a realistic and cost effective way. In certain areas of this endeavor we provide products and services. For instance, we harvest and store urban lumber, and we provide professional design services for storm water and gray water systems. We plan to expand our work into other areas as we develop new opportunities and capabilities.
We provide a fresh perspective that shows the processes involved and highlights the symbiotic relationships between many activities. We will showcase certain programs and technologies where we can make a difference. We like to think of our work as an exploration into what is possible.
WHAT we PROVIDE

the urban ecology project TEAM
CHRIS PECK
Having been raised in a household of early adopters of organic gardening, active solar hot water systems, and composting, his interest in these topics was instilled at an early age. Working as a licensed civil engineer and architect since 1999, during the time of enforcement of state regulations regarding storm water measures, he has gained in-depth professional knowledge of storm water capture, infiltration, and treatment systems, as well as more general water quality and erosion control measures.
In addition, Chris has been harvesting Urban Lumber, by capturing and re-using fallen trees milled on-site. Lumber ranging from Chinese Elm to California Live Oak to Monterrey and Aleppo Pine is being used for furniture manufacturing locally in collaboration with local artisans. Chris has lectured at the University of San Diego regarding urban ecology.
CHERYL AUGER
Chris’ wife and partner in the Urban Ecology Project, was a long time employee of SCE who worked in the research department, involved in developing new technologies in generation and conservation. She was a key analyst during the period of deregulation and divestment of generation facilities, and subsequently she has been involved in developing smart metering technology. Following her work at SCE, she consulted with utilities in the US, UK, and Canada regarding compliance with national security requirements. Through this work, she has been exposed to renewables and distributed generation technologies, as well as smart cities projects. Cheryl is currently co-founder of BAN-SUP, focusing on banning single use plastics through education and lobbying efforts.
